It's important to acknowledge that evolution in what we write about, because writing itself is simply an outlet for who we are and what we experience. And we're always changing... hopefully for the better.
I'm in s similar boat in terms of working in communications while also having a shadow career in writing, though my material only occasionally makes it to external publications. What I find, though, in terms of that waiting of the daytime, is that I often cannot wait. When the inspiration strikes, I need to write, otherwise I'll lose it...both the idea and, importantly, the *mood*. (A lot of my stuff is poetry, so mood is absolutely essential.) So, these days, I find myself taking advantage of my flexible working hours to indulge that personal writing when I need to, and making up the work time later.
It sometimes feels criminal to spend so much of your peak energy hours on content that's not your passion, but is only there to pay the bills...but for most, writing what we want to isn't a financially feasible endeavour, so we have to squeeze it in wherever we can. And hopefully we can come close to some kind of acceptable balance, so that the writing dreams aren't suffocated too much...
Lovely piece here.
